"I was going through my stuff recently and I found an audio tape from my early days. While enrolled in flight school at NAS Pensacola back in the 1970/71 time frame I obtained a copy of what was at the time called the "Formation Tape".
"Some flight instructors at Pensacola enjoyed the reputation of being "screamers". These guys came unglued in flight and yelled at their students instead of instructing them. Maybe these guys were not cut out to be flight instructors. There was one instructor who at the time enjoyed a particular reputation in this regard.
"The last series of flights before graduation were the most fun. They involved instruction in the ins and outs of formation flying. One day the before named instructor briefed 4 students for their first formation hop and unbeknownst to him 4 instructors ambushed and replaced them on their way to their planes. As you can guess: Chaos ensued.
"My recording was taken in the tower during this famous flight. I am not sure whether the flight was out of Baron or Whiting Field but it is fun to listen to. I think the aircraft were T-28's." - Les Wiley
